COLUMBUS, Ind. — A Columbus East High School student has suffered minor injuries after being struck by a car Wednesday morning.
According to Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. officials, the accident took place around 7 a.m. A male student was crossing Marr Road and was struck by a vehicle, which resulted in minor injury to his leg.
The student was treated at the scene and transported to the hospital. His injuries appear to be minor but were still being evaluated, as of 9:15 a.m. Principal Mark Newell, who visited the hospital and then returned to school, believes that the student will be OK.
They also indicated that darkness and rain may have played a role in the accident.
Columbus police said the vehicle involved in the accident did stop and call for help for the student.
Investigators also said rumors that are spreading due to the large number of police vehicles at the scene at East are unfounded and there is no threat at the school. The police cars were at the school to assist with the accident investigation.
