Okto Carmonia to have final concert

Carlos Lopez

The final concert for the local Okto Carmonia student chamber orchestra will be at 1:30 p.m. today at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 719 Fifth St. in downtown Columbus. Founder and conductor Carlos Lopez has decided on a change of direction from a career in music to one in law enforcement.

“I am very happy with what we have accomplished,” Lopez said. “We even had a choir last year.”

The program will include Christmas tunes, The “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s “Messiah” and three marches by Johann Strauss Sr., including the “Radetzky March,” which the ensemble has played at other holiday concerts.

Violinist Laura Andrews of the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic and the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, will be acting concertmaster.

The performance is free.
