Columbus police officers arrested two people on multiple charges after recovering a stolen handgun along with multiple stolen credits cards and currency on Tuesday morning.
At approximately 11:30 a.m., CPD officers responded to a restaurant in the 2000 block of 25th Street after receiving information that a stolen credit card was being used to purchase food at that location, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
When officers arrived, they made contact with Larson M. Brock, 27, of 2755 Scotland Drive, Columbus, who was walking to a car in the parking lot. When officers looked inside the car they observed a bag in the backseat that matched the description of a bag recently reported stolen from a vehicle. Officers secured the stolen bag that contained a laptop computer and other items, Harris said.
When the front seat passenger, Lauren N. Welch, 24, of 2929 Streamside Drive, Columbus, exited the vehicle, the officers noted that she had been sitting on a wallet that was also reported stolen, Harris said. Officers continued to search the vehicle and located a 9mm firearm that had been reported stolen in Bartholomew County on Monday.
While searching Brock’s clothing, the officers located several gift cards as well as credit cards that did not belong to him, Harris said.
Both Welch and Brock were placed under arrest and remanded to the Bartholomew County Jail on the preliminary charges below:
- Larson M. Brock: Theft of a firearm, fraud, and theft
- Lauren N. Welch: Theft, fraud, false informing
Both remain incarcerated on a 48-hour hold, Harris said.
The Columbus Police Department would like to remind the community to never leave valuable items including firearms unattended in vehicles and to always lock vehicle doors.
