The Columbus Flames Peewee AA team won the Winter Wonderland Classic last weekend in Rosemont, Illinois. The Columbus Flames Peewee AA team won the Winter Wonderland Outdoor Classic last weekend in Rosemont, Illinois. The Flames beat the Omaha Jr. Mavericks 5-2 and Tampa Bay Jr. Lightning 2-0 before downing the Omaha Jr. Mavericks 6-3 in the championship game.

Max Perez led the team with six goals and one assist. Carter Davis scored two goals; Brooks Larsh recorded one goal and three assists; Logan Barringer and Maddox Coy each notched one goal and one assist; Garrett Uy and Henry Schloemer each scored one goal; Ethan Neumann had two assists and Rowan Correll, Robby Orgass and Keaton Grube all added one assist. Canyon Long saved 53 of 58 shots for 91.3% save percentage.

Columbus Flames 14U A swept Miami AA 3-1 and 5-2. Eduardo Arando netted two goals and two assists; River Degner recorded two goals and one assist; Drew Weed and Grace Wallace each scored two goals; Simon Barnes had two assists and Uriah Oliphant, Ayden Richardson, Sawyer Patterson and Tyson Tyner all added one assist. Lane Barringer was in net.

Columbus Flames 14U B tied 1-1 and fell 3-2 against Owensboro and lost 8-3 and tied 3-3 against Louisville. Kaitlyn Netser netted four goals, Ryan McGhehey and Cooper Ross each scored two goals, Zane Lynch tallied one goal, Griffen Mudd and Preston Bell each had two assists and Lilly Donica added one assist. Gabe Marsh was in net three games, and Keegan Bishop was in net one game.

Columbus Flames Peewee B won 2-0 and tied 0-0 against Dayton. Hallie Mudd and Clare Neff each scored one goal, and Nolan Sparkman and Graham Barnes each had one assist. Knox Coen was in net.

Flames Squirt AA fell 2-1 and 4-0 against Indy Jr. Fuel Black and beat Dayton Stealth AA 3-1 and 7-5. Dalton Larsh netted nine goals and one assist; Carson Sims notched one goal and one assist; Tom Degner scored one goal and Lukas Jozsa, Colton Pepmeier, Chance Mathis and Nolan Bush all added one assist. Cayden Long was in net, making 111 of 123 saves for 90.2% save percentage.

Columbus Icemen varsity fell to Zionsville 5-2. Alex Clark and Nate Balasia each scored one goal, and Caleb McGhehey and John Merritt each had one assist. Jake McMullen was in net.

Columbus Icemen Prep lost to Angola 5-2 and Fort Wayne Renegades 11-0. Griffen Mudd and Bryce McDonald each scored one goal, and Eric Zhang and Kaitlyn Netser each had one assist. Sydney Morrow was in net.

SWIMMING

Club Olympia swims at Franklin

More than 40 Club Olympia athletes competed in last weekend’s FRST 14-and-under Provincial Championship Meet in Franklin. Club Olympia placed fourth out of 10 teams behind the host Franklin Regional Swim Team, Fort Wayne Swim Team and the Aquatics team from Summit City. This meet was unique in that swimmers competed in prelims and finals events against only swimmers their own age instead of age groupings.

Chad Pendleton won 10 individual events against his fellow 8-year-olds. Connelly Furnish grabbed five first-place finishes in eight 13-year-old events. Josh Pendleton also won five events on a shortened weekend schedule. Shreyan Kulkarni placed first in four, and Lily Pendleton first in one 10 year-old-event.

Zoie Chandelkar led the Club Olympia 14-year-olds with a fourth-place in the 200-yard backstroke and sixth in the 200 breaststroke. Brooklyn Pendleton placed seventh in the 50 freestyle.

Furnish paced the 13 year olds, finishing first in the 400 individual medley, 500 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 200 butterfly and 100 butterfly; second in the 200 IM and 200 breaststroke and third in the 100 breaststroke. Sanaa Kulkarni placed third in the 400 IM; fourth in the 200 butterfly and sixth in the 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke and 200 backstroke. Advika Badve took fifth in the 400 IM and eighth in the 100 breaststroke. Aksh Ranjan was sixth in the 200 backstroke and 200 IM and eighth in the 100 breaststroke.

Joshua Pendleton managed to lead the 12-year-olds, despite competing only two days. Pendleton won the 50 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 50 butterfly, 100 breaststroke and 200 IM. Aubrey Hernandez finished seventh in the 500 freestyle, and Jonathon Dettmer was eighth in the 200 freestyle.

Camila and Rebeca Mejia Murguia were top performers among the 11-year-olds, with Camila finishing second in the 50 freestyle and 50 butterfly, fourth in the 100 freestyle and 100 butterfly, fifth in the 200 freestyle and 200 IM and Rebeca placing fourth in the 50 breaststroke and 100 breaststroke and sixth in the 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 200 IM. Aashka Shah took sixth in the 100 breaststroke and eighth in the 50 breaststroke. Xavier Zhang was fifth in the 100 butterfly, seventh in the 50 butterfly and 500 freestyle and eighth in the 200 IM. Daxton Wolf came in ninth in both the 200 freestyle and 200 IM.

For the 10-year-olds, Kulkarni won the 100 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle and 200 IM and finished second in the 50 freestyle, 50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke. Arjun Agarkar placed sixth in the 200 freestyle, seventh in the 50 breaststroke and eighth in the 50 freestyle and 200 IM. Adir Joshi took sixth in the 100 freestyle, seventh in the 200 freestyle and eighth in the 100 butterfly. Shourya Malviya was fifth in the 50 butterfly, seventh in the 100 backstroke and 200 IM and eighth in the 50 backstroke. Vibha Nagiligari came in sixth in the 100 butterfly and eighth in the 200 freestyle.

Vivan Shah led the 9-year-olds; placing third in the 50 breaststroke; fourth in the 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle; fifth in the 50 freestyle, 50 butterfly, 50 backstroke, 100 breaststroke and 200 IM. Emily Meek finished third in the 200 freestyle and 200 IM; fourth in the 50 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke and 100 butterfly; fifth in the 50 backstroke; sixth in the 50 freestyle and seventh in the 50 butterfly, 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Cali Gray took fourth in the 200 IM; sixth in the 100 back and 200 freestyle and eighth in the 50 backstroke, 100 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Sarthak Deshmukh was fourth in the 100 breaststroke, sixth in the 50 breaststroke and 200 IM, seventh in the 100 butterfly and eighth in the 100 backstroke.

Joining Chad Pendleton in the 8 year old division was Bella Zhang placing fifth in the 100 backstroke; sixth in the 100 breaststroke and eighth in the 50 free, 50 butterfly and 50 backstroke. Myra Jaryal finished fourth in the 50 breaststroke, 100 butterfly and 200 IM; fifth in the 50 freestyle and 50 backstroke and sixth in the 50 butterfly. Arash Thokade was seventh in the 50 butterfly and eighth in the 50 breaststroke and 100 backstroke.

Club Olympia had relay teams across nearly all age combinations with nearly all finishing on the Top 8 podium. The Girls 8U team of Bella Zhang, Eva Rayomand, Neeti Gujarathi and Harini Pinna won the 200 freestyle relay.

For the meet, Club Olympia swimmers achieved 178 personal-best times in 297 total events, gaining 24 new Divisional Championship cut times and five new Age Group State Championship cut times. With one regular short course season meet remaining before championship season begins, nearly 50 Club Olympia swimmers have qualified for more than 200 Divisional events, 27 Age Group State events and 30 Senior State events.

The Hauser seventh-grade girls basketball team went 5-0 in the Mid-Hoosier Conference regular season and will play in the MHC Tournament the first week of March. Team members include, front row from left, Addyson Russell, Hayden Hedrick, Ava Dempsey, Madeline Wilmer; and back row, coach Michael Brock, Dinah McCartney, Abby Stacey, Peyton Norris, Olivia Harris, Laikyn Craig, Navaeh Paetzel and coach Robert Jordan.
