Maryellen “Mac” Wendling-Nichols

Maryellen “Mac” Wendling Nichols, 95, of Carmel, IN passed away Friday, February 24, 2023 at Wellbrooke of Carmel.

She was born in Indianapolis July 21, 1927 the daughter of Walter and Ruth Stark McCreery. Maryellen graduated from Shortridge High School in 1945. After graduation she married Robert C. Wendling, September 24, 1945. They lived in Indianapolis, California, New Jersey and Florida before settling in Columbus, IN where they raised two daughters; Robert preceded her in death June 22, 1992. She later married Roland Nichols June 4, 1994; he preceded her in death November 26, 2016.

In 2018, She moved to Magnolia Springs of Bridgewater Assisted Living and immediately enjoyed making new friends with all the residents and staff. She touched everyone’s lives with her kindness and sense of humor and was loved by all.

Maryellen enjoyed playing Bridge, Euchre, reading books and magazines. She never missed an opportunity to go out for lunch with family and friends. She loved filling out brackets for March Madness with her grandson Eric and picking the winner of the Kentucky Derby with her step-grandson Brian every year. She was an avid follower of the stock market and passed her knowledge on to her children and grandchildren. Over the years, Maryellen maintained weekly phone conversations with her niece and cousin.

She is survived by her daughter, Vickie (Jeff) Reed of Carmel, IN; son-in-law, Edwin Brubeck of Indianapolis, IN; step-daughters, Debbie Murphy and Renee Rodonis both of Palatine, IL; grandchildren, Eric (Julie) Reed of Carmel, IN, Sarah (Nathan) Brown of Carmel, IN, Abby (Andrew) McGuire of Carmel, IN, Roxanne (Jeff) McDaniel of Brownsburg, IN, Dieter Brubeck of Speedway, IN, ; step-grandchildren, Brian (Jessie) Murphy of Lakewood, IL, Carrie (Christopher) Doles of McHenry, IL, Joseph Rodonis of New York City, NY, Christopher Rodonis of Charlotte, NC; great grandchildren, Emma Reed, Miles Reed, Libby Brown, Anna Brown, Molly McGuire, Tanner McDaniel, Levi McDaniel, Melody Brubeck, Winnie Brubeck; step-great grandchildren, Mia Murphy, Madden Murphy, Anthony Doles, Dominic Doles; niece, Nancy (Larry) Milo-Grob of CA; cousin, Helen (Don) Denton of Columbus, OH.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; daughter, Mindie Brubeck; sister, Lois Janist Carter.

Visitation: March 6, 2023 from 12:00 -1:00. Funeral Service: March 6th, 2023 at 1:00 at: Myers~Reed Chapel, 3729 25th Street, Columbus, IN 47203

Private burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery. If traveling from the north for the service please allow for extra time, due to road construction on I-65 around Franklin.
