Panthers rally past Jets

NORTH VERNON — Kenzie Matern’s two-run triple in a five-run fifth inning gave Jennings County the lead for good in Monday’s season-opening 6-4 win against Hauser Monday night.

Jillian Brauer went 2 for 3 with a double and picked up the win in relief of Matern for the Panthers. Riley Byford also went 2 for 3.

Reagan Johnson went 2 for 3, and Izzy Brunner went 2 for 4 to lead the Jets.

Trinity tops South Decatur

SEYMOUR — Grace Lance threw a two-hitter with nine strikeouts Tuesday to lead Trinity Lutheran to a 13-0, five-inning win against South Decatur in the season opener for both teams.

Dianna Munoz had two hits for Trinity. Bailey Tabeling and Rowan Sharp each had two RBIs.

Lydia Witkemper and Molly Eden had the hits for South Decatur. Daisy Martin threw a five-hitter.

BASEBALL

Cougars split pair

SEYMOUR — Bret Perry threw a no-hitter Tuesday to lead Seymour to a 15-0, five-inning win against Trinity Lutheran.

On Monday, Trinity scored 10 times in the first inning and went on to hand Edinburgh a 17-0 season-opening defeat behind a one-hitter from Noah Voelker. Sage Broughton went 2 for 4 with a double, a triple and five RBIs; Nathan Finke went 2 for 4 with four RBIs and Drake Goodpaster went 2 for 3 with two RBIs for the Cougars.

Jarrett Turner had the lone hit for the Lancers.
