Indianapolis man accused of murder of local woman

Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies have arrested an Indianapolis man as a suspect in a murder case involving a woman who was found dead Sunday in a home in the 500 block of East County Road 650S.

The victim was identified as Ashley E. Neville, 40, according to the Bartholomew County Coroner’s office.

Anthony W. Carter, 49, of 3018 E. Raymond St., Indianapolis, is being held without bond in the Bartholomew County Jail on a preliminary charge of murder in Neville’s death and an unrelated out-of-county warrant, said Detective Dane Duke, sheriff’s department spokesman.

A forensic autopsy was conducted Monday in Hamilton County, Ohio according to Deputy Coroner Jay Frederick, who said the Hamilton County facility is used for forensic autopsies, which includes toxicology. Neville’s manner of death is listed as homicide and cause of death is still being determined, Frederick said Monday.

Deputies were sent to the woman’s home at about 5:28 a.m. Sunday for a welfare check on the female resident, Duke said. Deputies were unable to make contact with anyone at the residence.

During the investigation, a property owner reported an abandoned suspicious vehicle in a field in the 2000 block of East County Road 800S, Duke said. After further investigation, the vehicle was found to be connected to the victim’s residence.

While investigating the suspicious vehicle, a citizen reported a male subject hiding in the woods near the County Road 650S address, Duke said. A perimeter was established around the wooded area and a sheriff’s office K9 was called to conduct a search. Deputies located Carter a short time later and he was detained without incident, Duke said.

As the investigation continued, a search warrant was granted for the residence. During the search the female resident, later identified as Neville, was found deceased inside the home.

Carter was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on the preliminary charge murder and the warrant, where he is being held without bond, according to jail officials.

This is an ongoing investigation, according to Duke.
