Columbus police arrest local driver who nearly hit a patrol vehicle head-on

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus police officers arrested a local man for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated on Tuesday night after his truck nearly struck a CPD patrol vehicle. At approximately 11:30 p.m., a CPD officer was on patrol in the 500 block of Jonesville Road when a truck crossed over the center line and nearly struck the officer head-on, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman. The officer was able to get the vehicle stopped a short time later on Jonesville Road near County Road 200S.
The officer made contact with the driver of the vehicle, Derik J. Bryant, 32, of Columbus. While speaking with Bryant, the officer noted that his eyes were bloodshot, his movements were lethargic, and he had difficulty following directions.
