Will Boyer // Columbus East senior baseball player

Boyer pitched a scoreless inning in a 1-0 win at Jennings County and threw a complete-game three-hitter and did not allow an earned run in Saturday’s 4-2 win against Bloomington South.

His performance last week: “I had control of most of my pitches, and my defense was playing well behind me. I had confidence in my pitches knowing that if they hit it, my defense would back me up.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “If we’re home, we have PVC pipes, so I can activate my shoulder.”

Favorite drink: “Dr. Pepper”

Favorite food: “Pizza”

Favorite class: “Finite Math”

Favorite sports team: “Indiana University”

Favorite athlete: “Mike Trout”

Role model: “My dad (David Boyer)”

Best advice: “When times are tough, just always keep your head up and don’t get down and know you’re capable of doing better next time.”

Athletics goal: “To try to win state for baseball this year.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Alaska, because of the wildlife and stuff out there. I think it would be pretty cool to experience the nature there.”

Kenzie Foster // Columbus East senior softball player

Kenzie Foster

Foster went 3 for 4 with four stolen bases in a 13-7 win against Jennings County and went 2 for 2 with a home run leading off the game in Friday’s 8-2 loss at Bedford North Lawrence.

Her performance last week: “The week before, I was in a little bit of a slump, so I was very proud to come back and get a couple of hits this week and get out of that slump.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I usually try to hit before the game and get in some extra work. If I don’t have time for that, I just get prepared mentally about what I need to do offensively and defensively to help the team out.”

Favorite drink: “Root beer”

Favorite food: “Mexican”

Favorite class: “I like English.”

Favorite sports team: “Syracuse softball (which she will play for next year)”

Favorite athlete: “(Oklahoma softball player) Tiare Jennings”

Role model: “My parents (Jeremy and Kylie). They were both very successful college athletes (at Olivet Nazarene) and have passed that down.”

Best advice: “Whatever you do, whether it’s sports or everyday life, give 100 percent no matter what because it could be your last time doing something.”

Athletics goal: “I would love to get the most home runs in a single season and beat my stolen base record from last season and end with a high batting average.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Turks and Caicos, because that’s been one of my dream places to visit and go on vacation.”
