East edges Trojans

Columbus East got wins from all of its varsity seniors Wednesday in a 3-2 senior night win against East Central.

Senior Katie Hong pulled out a 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 win against Elizabeth Kirschgessner at No. 2 singles to give the Olympians (7-9) the win. Seniors Shruthika Kumar and Katey Rieckers beat Ava Kraus and Olivia Rosemeyer 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, and senior Allie Gribbins teamed with junior Sara Moran to top Brooke Carpenter and Maddie Noel 6-2, 7-6 (5) at No. 2 doubles.

East’s Lauren Degner fell to Emma Origer 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and Ruth Federle lost to Kelsey Scholl 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.

The Olympians were coming off a 5-0 loss at Franklin on Tuesday. Degner fell to Chelsie Rayl 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Hong lost to Emma Williams 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and Federle fell to Mallory Luse 5-7, 6-3, (12-10) at No. 3 singles. Kumar and Rieckers lost to Alyin Hendricks and Mainey Moore 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, and Gribbins and Moran fell to Meleah Murphy and Emma Sappenfield 7-5, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

North downs Panthers

BLOOMINGTON — No. 12 Columbus North wrapped up second place in Conference Indiana Tuesday with a 4-1 win at Bloomington South.

Kathryn Wilson beat Maddie Santner at No. 1 singles, and Aya Saad blanked Brooke Liao at No. 2 singles, both by 6-0, 6-0 scores for the Bull Dogs (13-3, 4-1). Annabelle Sun topped Hannah Vandeventer 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 dingles, and Siri Poludasu and Nino Nahayla defeated Anna Feddersen and Audrey Wu 6-2, 6-1 a No. 2 doubles.

North’s Lucy Bergman and Grace Conner fell to Caitlin Heim and Riley Walker 6-0, 7-5 at No. 1 doubles.

Tiger Cubs top Eagles

GREENCASTLE — Greencastle won three matches in straight sets Wednesday in a 4-1 WIC win against Brown County.

Ava Kelly and Cady Kemp beat Bella Monnett and Liberty Annis 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles for the Eagles (10-6, 4-2).

Brown County’s Anna Stogsdill fell to Allie Landry 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, Anna Tipton lost to Maddie Landry 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 singles and Julia Burt fell to Addie Fowler 6-5, 2-6, (11-9) at No. 3 singles. Katie Tipton and Londyn Koester lost to Caroline Gooch and Sophie Riggle 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles.

Tigers topple Lancers

FAIRLAND — Triton Central won four matches in straight sets Wednesday in a 5-0 win against Edinburgh.

Jessica Walsh fell to Mary Rose Felling 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Zoey Sida lost to Hallie Schweitzer 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2 singles and Izzy Richardson fell to Maddy Brown 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles for the Lancers (2-7).

Edinburgh’s Jillian Turner and Gracie Myers lost to Courtney Washburn and Kaylynn Washburn 0-6, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles. Mia Dodson and Lily Turner fell to Audrey Canter and Lauren Grant 6-4, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

Braves edge Panthers

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County won the top two singles positions Tuesday, but Brownstown Central took the others to pull out a 3-2 victory.

Tatum Brown beat Brynn Burton 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, and Kaydence Lowman topped Leah Pottschmidt 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles for the Panthers (2-8).

Jennings’ Jocelyn Valdovinos fell to Jenna Bolte 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. Makenzey Carr and Mia Silvey lost to Kaitlyn Williams and Bella Brown 7-5, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, and Gabi Morin and Trina Collins fell to Audrey Scarlett and Genna Preston 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.

BOYS GOLF

North takes second

GREENWOOD — No. 18 Columbus North finished second in a tri match Wednesday at Harrison Lake Country Club. No. 6 Center Grove won with a 144 to 155 for the Bull Dogs and 164 for Franklin.

Willy Davis tied for medalist honors with an even-par 35 to lead North. Tyler Wilks, Brady Schneider, Joseph Perkins and Carter Battin all shot 40; Jack Schiavello carded a 42, John Merritt added a 43, Luke Friend had a 46, Alex Clark finished with a 48 and Brennan Kushman and Parker Brown each shot 54.

Eagles outscore Mitchell

NASHVILLE — Clay Austin won medalist honors with a 40 Wednesday to lead Brown County to a 195-272 win against Mitchell at Salt Creek.

Bradley Arndt carded a 48 for the Eagles. Wesley Arndt added a 49, Liam Cassiday shot 58, Jon Kirchhofer had a 59 and Will Hiatt finished with a 63.

Panthers take tri

Jake Grider and Davey Shaw tied for medalist honors with 42s to lead Jennings County to a tri-match win Tuesday at Clifty Creek. The Panthers scored a season-best 171 to 200 for host Hauser and 209 for Trinity Lutheran.

Eli Simmons added a 43 for Jennings. Tanner Stearns shot 44, and Jack George had a 50.

Hunter Pappano led the Jets with a 46. Brendon Burton added a 49, Caleb Wallace shot 54 and Marshall Moody had a 60.

Jack Stuckwisch led the Cougars with a 45. Wylie Jones and Andrew Lemming each shot 53, Alex Overgaard added a 58 and Solomon Hall had a 60.

TRACK AND FIELD

East, Eagles split dual

NASHVILLE — Columbus East won Tuesday’s girls dual meet 108-15, but Brown County pulled out a 64-62 victory in the boys meet.

Megan Tracy won the girls shot put (35 feet, 9 inches) and discus (99-6), and Emma Gray took the 100-meter hurdles (17.05 seconds) and 300 hurdles (49.74) to lead the Olympians. Other winners for East were Jenna Guse in the high jump (4-10), Gabbie Meier in the long jump (15-7 1/2), Taylor Scott in the 100 (13.54), Carly Otte in the 1,600 (5:58.83), Sophie Glick in the 400 (1:06.67), Victoria Cuhadar in the 800 (2:38.64) and Makenzie Cheek in the 200 (28.82). The Olympians also swept the 4×800 (10:51.92), 4×100 (52.18) and 4×400 (4:25.43) relays.

Brown County’s Hadley Gradolf won the girls 3,200 (11:42.78).

Chase Austin led the Eagle boys with wins in the 1,600 (4:42.35) and 800 (2:05.96). Other winners for Brown County were Case Smith in the high jump (5-3), Jacob Finley in the long jump (18-2), Wyatt Barnett in the shot (40-2) and Charles Webb in the 3,200 (11:09.04). The Eagles also took the 4×800 relay (9:01.17).

East’s Henrique Carvalho won the 110 hurdles (16.15) and 300 hurdles (43.87), and Kadyn Johnson-Bey took the 100 (12.22) and 200 (24.24). Other winners were Austin Menefee in the pole vault (8-6), Jacob Guse in the discus (131-9), Ethan Duncan in the 400 (54.34). The Olympians also captured the 4×100 (47.47) and 4×400 (3:39.22) relays.

Panthers sweep Cubs

MADISON — Jennings County swept Madison on Tuesday, winning the boys meet 92-30 and the girls meet 65-63.

Will Barnes won the 110 hurdles (16.50) and 300 hurdles (46.63), and Levi Marsh took the 400 (53.96) and 200 (23.70) to lead the Panther boys. Other winners were Branden Braun in the long jump (20-1 1/2), Austin Wells in the shot put (43-1), Bryson Webster in the discus (130-0), Blaine Ison in the 100 (11.94), Kraedyn Young in the 800 (2:09.24) and Noah McFall in the 3,200 (10:43.77). Jennings also swept the 4×800 (9:19.82), 4×100 (45.06) and 4×400 (3:38.06) relays.

Rachael Manning led the Panther girls with wins in the 100 (13.25), 400 (1:04.67) and 200 (27.80), while Mallory Manowitz took the 100 hurdles (17.89) and 300 hurdles (53.34). Cheyeanna Leslie captured the discus (102-6), and Jennings won the 4×800 (10:46.33) and 4×400 (4:33.51) relays.

SOFTBALL

Olympians down Cubs

MADISON — Columbus East broke a scoreless tie with four runs in the third inning Tuesday and went on to post an 8-3 win at Madison.

Savanna Sullivan went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, Kenzie Foster went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs and Addy Ross had three RBIs for the Olympians (10-8). Megan Kennedy and Hermione Robinson combined on a six-hitter with nine strikeouts and no earned runs.

Jets pound Pirates

GREENSBURG — Hauser broke a 2-2 tie with six runs in the fourth inning Tuesday and claimed a 10-2 win at Greensburg.

Paige McDaniel threw a six-hitter with eight strikeouts and went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs for the Jets (10-3). Lucie Asher, Izzy Brunner and Kyra Meister all went 3 for 4; Reagan Johnson went 2 for 3, Kylie Mack went 2 for 4, Haylin Campbell had a home run and two RBIs and Hannah Taylor had two RBIs.

Crusaders fall in 5

INDIANAPOLIS — Columbus Christian scored twice in the top of the first Tuesday, but Indiana Deaf rallied for an 18-2, five-inning victory.

Mara Nickerson had an RBI-triple for the lone hit for the Crusaders (1-3).

Patriots top Lancers

Edinburgh led 3-2 after one inning Wednesday, but Terre Haute North rallied for a 19-7, five-inning victory.

MacKenzie Bieker went 2 for 2 with two home runs and five RBIs for the Lancers (9-7). Gracie Crawhorn went 3 for 3 with two RBIs, and Kenna Streeval went 2 for 3.

Edinburgh was playing the Patriots in place of Southwestern (Shelby), which forfeited its Mid-Hoosier Conference games Tuesday and Wednesday against the Lancers because it did not have enough healthy players. The two wins leave Edinburgh 7-1 in the MHC.

Eagles fall twice

Brown County came away with a 7-2 Western Indiana Conference loss to South Putnam on Wednesday.

Lexie Austin went 3 for 4 for the Eagles (2-11, 1-6). Ava Sanders went 2 for 3.

On Tuesday, Brown County dropped a 13-4 WIC decision at West Vigo. Abigail Watson went 2 for 3, and Ava Stogsdill, Austin, Sanders and Ally Hash all went 2 for 4.

Owls edge Panthers

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County matched Seymour with nine hits Tuesday, but the Owls came away with a 5-3 Hoosier Hills Conference win.

Ashley Meade went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs, Alexis Carson went 2 for 3 with a double, Jillian Brauer went 2 for 4 with a double and Riley Byford went 2 for 4 for the Panthers (11-8, 1-3). Kenzie Matern threw a nine-hitter with eight strikeouts and allowed only one earned run.

Jackets best Cougars

GREENSBURG — Morristown jumped out to a 13-0 lead after 2 1/2 innings Tuesday and went on to hand South Decatur a 19-3, five-inning defeat.

Molly Eden went 2 for 3 for the Cougars (2-12, 2-4).

Trinity tops Generals

CLARKSVILLE — Grace Lance threw a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts and did not allow an earned run Tuesday in leading Trinity Lutheran to a 13-3, five-inning win at Clarksville.

Bailey Tabeling went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, Rowan Sharp went 2 for 3 with two doubles and Dianna Munoz went 2 for 3 for the Cougars (10-7). Madison Keith went 2 for 4 with a double, a triple and four RBIs, and Morgan Brewer had three RBIs.

BASEBALL

Crusaders rout Tigers

CROTHERSVILLE — Columbus Christian trailed 3-1 after three innings before scoring two in the fourth, five in the fifth and 10 in the sixth to rally for an 18-4, six-inning win Tuesday at Crothersville.

Branson Carr threw a four-hitter with nine strikeouts and went 3 for 4 with a triple and four RBIs for the Crusaders (2-1). Cam Watts-Pritchard went 2 for 2, and Peyton Walden went 2 for 5 with two RBIs.

Cougars blank Jackets

GREENSBURG — Devin Pate and Brady Lane combined on a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts Tuesday to lead South Decatur to a 16-0, five-inning MHC win against Morristown.

Avery Seegers went 3 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs for the Cougars (10-4, 6-1). J.P. Scudder went 2 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs, Brock Lane went 2 for 4 with a double, Brady Lane and Cameron Henderson each went 2 for 4 and Dale Peters and Colby Rathburn each had two RBIs.

Panthers split pair

Jeffersonville pushed across a run in the bottom of the seventh Wednesday to claim a 6-5 win against Jennings County.

Cole Sigler and Lane Zohrlaut each had two RBIs for the Panthers (5-12).

On Tuesday, South Dearborn outhit Jennings 10-9, but the Panthers rolled to a 9-3 victory. Zohrlaut went 2 for 3 with a double, Keegan Manowitz went 2 for 4 with a double, Sigler went 2 for 4 and Logan Napier had two RBIs for the Panthers. Owen Kipper pitched the first 4 1/3 innings in picking up the win.

Eagles take two losses

Brown County led 4-3 after five innings Wednesday, but South Putnam rallied with two in the sixth and two in the seventh to pull out a 7-4 WIC win.

Jack Sichting went 2 for 3 for the Eagles (3-11, 1-7). Mikey Kobiernik, Gavin Butcher and Jade Woolems all went 2 for 4.

On Tuesday, West Vigo scored in all four of its innings at the plate in a 10-0, five-inning WIC win against Brown County. The Eagles were held to two hits.

Lancers fall twice

SHELBYVILLE — Edinburgh was within 4-2 after three innings Wednesday, but Southwestern (Shelby) pulled away for a 12-2 MHC win.

Milas Burkman, Jarrett Turner and Dakota Graw combined on a five hitter. The Lancers (2-16, 1-10) were held to four hits.

On Tuesday, Southwestern scored 13 times in the top of the first and went on to hand Edinburgh a 17-7, five-inning MHC defeat. Turner went 3 for 3, and Riley Peavler had two RBIs for the Lancers.

Trinity tops Twisters

SEYMOUR — Peyton Pollert and Drake Goodpaster combined on a six-hit shutout Tuesday to lead Trinity Lutheran to a 5-0 win against Oldenburg Academy.

Jackson Trueblood had two hits for the Cougars (8-10).
