Plat approved for airplex commerce center

Columbus Municipal Airport is continuing to work toward developing some of its land for industrial users.

The Columbus Board of Works has approved a plat and an updated subdivision improvement agreement for Section 1 of the airplex commerce center major subdivision.

“The Airplex Commerce Center is located north of Poshard Drive between Middle Road and Arnold Street,” wrote senior planner Ashley Beckort in a memo to the board. “The approved preliminary plat for the Airplex Commerce Center includes 37 industrial lots on +/- 43 acres. Section 1 is for the initial 15 lots, as well as the construction of new streets.”

The airport requested to switch their subdivision improvement agreement from “Building & Dedicate” to “Performance Guarantee” so that they could get the plat approved and recorded, then start selling or leasing lots, said Beckort.

“We’ve already leased the first parcel, and that tenant is interested and going to get started on the construction of that project,” said Airport Director Brian Payne.

Milestone Contractors’ contract with the city for the extension of Grissom Street, along with other work on the airplex commerce center, has a not-to-exceed amount of $1.195 million. The Columbus Redevelopment Commission is funding the work through dollars from the airport’s Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district.

Payne has said that the funds will be used to extend Grissom Street near the Columbus Police Department firing range east to a new road that will be called Suverkrup Drive, which will run south and intersect with Poshard Drive.

The grant will also be used to add water and sewer utilities for parcels and add new infrastructure nearby, such as a crosswalk across from Poshard Drive connecting Suverkrup Drive to Deerbrook Drive and a side path on the Columbus People Trail down Poshard Drive to Middle Road.
