Jets topple Cougars

GREENSBURG — Hauser scored six times in each of the first two innings and went on to post a 14-3 Mid-Hoosier Conference win Thursday at South Decatur.

Hannah Taylor went 3 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs to lead a 19-hit attack for the Jets (15-4, 9-0). Haylin Campbell went 2 for 2 with a double and three RBIs, Kyra Meister went 2 for 2 with a double, Madison Hollman went 2 for 2, Reagan Johnson went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs. Paige McDaniel and Reagan Mack combined on a five-hitter with 14 strikeouts.

Kyra Fields went 2 for 3 with two RBIs for the Cougars (4-15, 3-6).

Lancers move to semis

TRAFALGAR — Edinburgh advanced to the semifinals of the Johnson County Tournament with a 4-1 first-round win at Indian Creek.

MacKenzie Bieker threw a four-hitter with nine strikeouts and did not allow an earned run for the Lancers (10-10). Kenna Streeval went 3 for 4 with a double, and Gracie Crawhorn went 2 for 3 with two doubles and two RBIs.

Edinburgh will play at Center Grove in the semifinals at 10 a.m. Saturday. The final is at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

Eagles edge Cougars

NASHVILLE — Brown County pounded out 13 hits in a 10-9 win against Bloomington North.

Ava Sanders went 3 for 5 with a doubles and three RBIs for the Eagles (3-13). Ally Hash went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, Lindsey Summers and Chloe Poling each went 2 for 4, Ava Stogsdill and Savannah Oden each went 2 for 5 and Lexie Austin had two RBIs.

Panthers fall to Floyd

NORTH VERNON — Floyd Central broke open a 1-1 game with five runs in the second and went on to claim a 7-1 Hoosier Hills Conference win at Jennings County.

Marlee Elston went 2 for 3 for the Panthers (11-12, 1-5).

BASEBALL

Cougars slip past Jets

GREENSBURG — Jansen McDonald came through with a walkoff RBI-triple in the bottom of the seventh to lift South Decatur to a 2-1 win against Hauser.

Devin Pate threw a four-hitter with nine strikeouts and did not allow an earned run for the Cougars (12-5, 8-1). Brady Lane and McDonald each went 2 for 3 with a triple.

R.J. Foster went 2 for 3 for the Jets (11-8-1, 8-1). Owen McIntyre threw a six-hitter and allowed only one earned run.

Hauser and South Decatur are now tied atop the MHC going into today’s rematch at Hauser.

Crusaders top Tigers

INDIANAPOLIS — Carson Hall, Noah Rose and Cam Watts-Pritchard combined on a one-hitter to lead Columbus Christian to a 14-9 win at Tindley.

Watts-Pritchard also went 2 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs for the Crusaders (4-3). Andrew Lucas went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, Peyton Walden had a triple and three RBIs and Branson Carr and Jaxxon Games each had two RBIs.

Panthers take fifth

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County claimed fifth place in the HHC Tournament with a 2-1 win against Bedford North Lawrence.

Cole Sigler threw a four-hitter for the Panthers (9-14). Keegan Manowitz went 2 for 3, and Austin Byford had a double and two RBIs.

Cougars clip Dogs

EDINBURGH — Columbus North’s Willy Davis won medalist honors with a 1-over-par 72, but Bloomington North edged the No. 13 Bull Dogs on the fifth-score tiebreaker after both teams shot 303 at Timbergate.

Tyler Wilks added a 73 for Columbus North. John Merritt and Brady Schneider each shot 79, Jack Schiavello had an 85 and Joseph Perkins and Alex Clark each shot 89.

Panthers take tri

EDINBURGH — Edinburgh’s Max Blandford won medalist honors with a 37 at Timbergate, but Jennings County won a tri meet with a 159 to 174 for the Lancers and 192 for the Columbus East JV.

Davey Shaw led the Panthers with a 38. Jake Grider carded a 39, Jack George added a 40, Tanner Stearns shot 42 and Eli Simmons had a 48.

Devyn Milburn carded a 43 for Edinburgh. Wyatt Burton, Keegan Smith and Trenton Schmidt all shot 47; Gabe Bennett added a 48; Austin Brockman had a 50 and Mason Calhoun finished with a 52.

Luke Rice led the East JV with a 45. Keaton Stephenson carded a 46, Henry Sims added a 48, Danny Coriden shot 50, Mason Eads had a 51 and Josh Saewert finished with a 57.

GIRLS TENNIS

East takes fourth

JEFFERSONVILLE — Columbus East won the No. 1 singles spot, but Jeffersonville took the other four in a 4-1 decision in the Hoosier Hills Conference third-place match.

Lauren Degner beat Anellah Trujillo 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles for the Olympians (9-11).

East’s Ashlynn Waddle fell to Kirstin Elder 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, and Ruth Federle lost to Claire Stack 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Shruthika Kumar and Katey Rieckers fell to Eva Ellis and Abby Leep 7-5, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, and Allie Gribbins and Sara Moran lost to September Kouchak and Sara Sharp 5-7, 6-0, (10-2) at No. 2 doubles.

Stars edge Panthers

BEDFORD — Bedford North Lawrence slipped past Jennings County 3-2 in the consolation round of the HHC Tournament.

Tatum Brown beat Becca Epping at No. 1 singles, and Kaydence Lowman topped Ashlyn Wever at No. 2 singles, both by 6-0, 6-1 scores for the Panthers (3-12).

Jennings’ Jocelyn Valdovinos fell to Italy Lewis 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. Mia Silvey and Gabi Morin lost to Bella Stigall and Mallory Pride 6-0, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles, and Makenzey Carr and Trina Collins fell to Kenley Craig and Izzy Aldredge 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

Saints stop Lancers

EDINBURGH — Indianapolis Lutheran won four matches in straight sets in a 4-1 win at Edinburgh.

Izzy Richardson beat Ella Wiegand 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles for the Lancers (5-9).

Edinburgh’s Zoey Sida fell to Cat Erwin at No. 1 singles, and Gracie Lawson lost to Rachel Murphy at No. 3 singles, both by 6-0, 6-1 scores. Jillian Turner and Gracie Myers fell to Rachel Bolton and Malin Bullock 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles, and Lily Turner and Mia Dodson lost to Maddyn Franklin and Dani Taylor 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

BOYS TRACK AND FIELD

JC fourth, East sixth in HHC

FLOYDS KNOBS — Jennings County finished fourth, and Columbus East tied for sixth in the Hoosier Hills Conference boys meet. Host Floyd Central won with 186 points, followed by Seymour (82 1/2), New Albany (72 1/2), Jennings (69), Jeffersonville (68) and East and Bedford North Lawrence (both with 32).

The Panthers picked up a win in the 4×400-meter relay in 3 minutes, 30.53 seconds. Kraedyn Young finished second in the 1,600 (4:31.94) and 800 (2:04.32), Evan Sochacki tied for third in the pole vault (11 feet), Branden Braun took fourth in the 100 (11.60), Cole Marksberry was fourth in the 300 hurdles (41.16) and Jennings placed fourth in the 4×800 (8:32.99) and 4×100 (44.74) relays.

The Olympians were led by Jacob Guse, who finished second in the discus (137-1) and fourth in the shot put (43-0), and Henrique Carvalho, who was second in the 300 hurdles (40.76) and fourth in the 110 hurdles (15.83).

Eagles finish eighth

BRAZIL — Chase Austin won the 1,600 in 4:24.00 to lead Brown County to an eighth-place finish in the Western Indiana Conference boys meet with 46 1/2 points. Host Northview won with 110.

Wyatt Sutter finished third in the discus (124-4 1/2), Case Smith tied for fourth in the high jump (5-8) and the Eagles were third in the 4×800 (8:33.27) relay and fourth in the 4×400 relay (3:39.05).
