Firecracker 5K set for Saturday

The 25th annual Firecracker 5K run and walk is at 8 a.m. Saturday near Northside Pediatrics.

The entry fee for the event is $30. Runners may sign up for the race at secure.getmeregistered.com/get_information.php?event_id=138061 or at runcolumbus.org/events-1. Runners can pick up their packets from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at White River Running Company or from 7 to 7:55 a.m. Saturday at Northside Pediatrics just before the race.

Indiana Timing will be the official timer for the event this year. Results will be posted at indianatiming.com by 5 p.m. Saturday after the race.

According to race director Prasad Poludasu, there were about 100 entrants a year ago. He is expecting about the same this year and mentioned there were about 70 people entered as of Friday, but usually there’s another 20 to 30 that sign up for the race at the last minute.

Poludasu had run this event around 15 years prior before taking over as race director last year. He’s also the vice president of the Columbus Running Club.

“I’ve run the race many, many times. It so happened that I joined the board of the running club,” he said. “I’ve taken this race up as something that I’ve wanted to run.”

There’s been an update on the awards for the event. There now will be $20 White River Running Company certificates for the top runner and walker in each age group.
