City panel to vote on downtown development

The Columbus Redevelopment Commission will consider whether to approve a project agreement with Flaherty & Collins properties for a new mixed-use development during a 4 p.m. meeting Monday, in the Council Chambers of Columbus City Hall. Meetings can also be streamed at columbus.in.gov.

The proposed project would be located in front of the Cummins, Inc. parking garage at Seventh and Washington streets. Deron Kintner, general counselor with the developer, has described the concept as an apartment building with about 57 units and some first-floor commercial space.

The potential project is estimated to cost $15 million and require an approximately $5 million subsidy from the commission, he said.

The other action item on Monday’s agenda is a vote on a resolution to contribute up to $80,000 in tax increment financing (TIF) dollars to an “Eighth Street Gateway Infrastructure Project,” with Laura Garrett with the Landmark Columbus Foundation speaking about the project.

The commission is also expected to discuss TIF expansion, facade grants and the Office of Downtown Development.
