COLUMBUS, Ind. — Firefighters are saying a house at 12571 S. County Road 100W is a total loss after an early-morning fire reported at 6:47 a.m. Wednesday.

Columbus Township Fire Chief Dave Thompson said Columbus Township was dispatched to the scene along with Elizabethtown, Southwest, Harrison Township and a Jackson County unit along with Columbus Fire Department Engine 6.

Six family members reside in the home and three were at home when the fire started, Thompson said, and all evacuated safely.

No injuries to the family or firefighters were reported.

When firefighters arrived the second story of the two-story home was fully-involved in flames, Thompson said.

A fire inspector is on the scene conducting an investigation.

About 20 to 25 firefighters were called to the scene and many were still there at mid-morning, Thompson said.
