Fire destroys Bartholomew County home

Firefighters say a house at 12571 S. County Road 100W is a total loss after an early-morning fire reported at 6:47 a.m. Wednesday.

Columbus Township Fire Chief Dave Thompson said Columbus Township was dispatched to the scene along with firefighters from Elizabethtown, Southwest, Harrison Township departments and a Jackson County unit. Columbus Fire Department Engine 6 also responded to the scene.

About 20 to 25 firefighters worked to put out the fire on Wednesday.

Six family members reside in the home and three were at home when the fire started, Thompson said, and all evacuated safely.

No injuries to the family or firefighters were reported.

When firefighters arrived the second story of the two-story home was fully-involved in flames, Thompson said.

A fire inspector was called to the scene and a cause has not yet been determined.
