Sound and Spirit has fish fry at American Legion

The Sound and Spirit of Columbus marching band is raising funds through a fish fry at the American Legion, 2515 25th St., from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, or while supplies last. Pulled pork will also be available.

Proceeds will benefit the combined marching band, which is made up of more than 150 students from the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp.’s three high schools.

“This is a by donation event and the band is counting on your support,” organizers said. “There will be live music periodically and (color) guard throughout the day.”

Boosters added that they would love to see band alumni stop by the event.

According to a social media post from Denise Sharpe, president of Columbus North High School’s band boosters, all profits after the cost of fish will benefit the band, as the pork was donated by some “awesome” individuals.

“Let’s have fun and make some money so we can safely transport everything needed for this season!” she wrote.

Charity Phillips, treasurer for the North boosters, said that the band’s semi needs multiple repairs. Additionally, an axel broke on a trailer from Columbus East High School that they had been using, so the band will need to find an alternative way to transport instruments that don’t fit on the semi.
