Carter Gant // Columbus East senior golfer
Gant led the Olympians with a 76 in the season opening Seymour Invitational at Shadowood, won medalist honors with a 40 in a second-place finish in a tri match at Otter Creek and led East with an 80 in Saturday’s Greensburg Invitational at Greensburg Country Club.
Her performance last week: “I’m pleased with it. You’re never going to be fully satisfied. There’s always going to be stuff to work on, so I need to continue grinding.”
Do you do anything special to prepare? “I usually just listen to music.”
Favorite drink: “Dr. Pepper.”
Favorite food: “Pasta”
Favorite class: “Construction.”
Favorite sports team: “Purdue”
Favorite athlete: “(Former Columbus North and current Purdue basketball player) Sam King”
Role model: “Coach (LaDonna) VanDeventer. She just always has a good attitude, and she’s had a positive impact on my life.”
Best advice: “It was actually given by assistant coach Keith VanDeventer. He said ‘Don’t dwell where you’re at now. Focus on where you’re going to be.’”
Athletics goal: “To make it to state.”
If you could travel anywhere: “Probably The Bahamas, so I can swim with the hogs.”
