North, East 14th, 15th

FRANKLIN — Columbus North and Columbus East finished 14th and 15th in Saturday’s Franklin Invitational at The Legends.

Twelve of the 21 teams in the tournament were ranked or receiving votes in this week’s coaches poll. No. 3 Center Grove won with a 307, followed by No. 8 Floyd Central (320), No. 11 Franklin (325) and No. 10 Batesville (336).

The Bull Dogs finished with a 415 team total. Erin Hopkins led North with an 81. while Lindsey Hartwell carded a 97, Harper Andresen added a 118, Kara Buntin shot 119 and Ava Pavlov had a 129.

The Olympians had a 419, led by an 80 from Carter Gant. Grace LaSell added a 101, Dyana Foster had a 110 and Ali Trueblood and Allison Sharpe each shot 128.

Edinburgh finished 21st with a 497. Izzy Richardson led the Lancers with a 98, while Macie Blandford added a 120, Bella Turner shot 136 and Sophia Pace had a 143.

Panthers take seventh

MADISON — Jennings County finished seventh out of 11 teams in the Madison Invitational with a 478 at Sunrise.

Lauren Galvan led the Panthers with a 101. Shelby Davis carded a 119, Dakota Carr added a 127, Amilia Gresham shot 131 and Aslynn Hopkins had a 135.

East falls to Woodmen

GREENWOOD — Columbus East opened its season with a 4-1 loss at Greenwood.

Iynigo Tan and Henry Ulrich picked up a 6-3, 6-7 (5), (12-10) win against Seth McCauley and Nick Pruett at No. 2 doubles for the Olympians.

East’s Erik Takahashi fell to Noah Paswater 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Brady Redelman lost to Carter Chatham 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Tyler Ernst fell to Ian Ratliff 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. Jacob Dettmer and Ethan Bumbalough lost to Will Davidson and Brayden Holman 6-4, 7-5 at No. 1 doubles.

VOLLEYBALL

Lancers win one of three

MORRISTOWN — Edinburgh went 1-2 in the season-opening Morristown Classic. The Lancers fell to Northeastern 25-21, 25-14; beat Eastern Hancock 26-24, 25-22 and lost to Morristown 25-17, 23-25, 16-14.

Jessica Walsh pounded 23 kills, Kyah Streeval recorded 65 assists, MacKenzie Bieker had seven blocks, Kenna Streeval notched 54 digs and Zoey Sida served three aces to lead Edinburgh.

Also for the Lancers, Bieker tallied 18 kills and 28 digs, Sida added 14 kills and 27 digs and Kyah Streeval had two aces and 28 digs. Mia Dodson collected four blocks, and Walsh added 29 digs.

Trinity goes 1-2

CLARKSVILLE — Trinity went 1-2 to begin the season in Providence’s Pioneer Kickoff Classic. The Cougars fell to Castle 25-13, 25-22, 25-7; beat Evansville Mater Dei 25-22, 25-18, 25-16 and lost to Springs Valley 25-23, 25-12, 23025, 18-25, 15-13.

Carson Bowling recorded 32 kills and six blocks, and Laura Roeder had 51 digs and nine aces to lead Trinity. Addison Darlage notched 76 assists, and Madison Keith had six blocks.

Also for the Cougars, Ava Blomenberg pounded 76 kills, and Keith added 73 kills, 25 blocks and five aces. Kiley Zabel tallied 14 digs, and Darlage served two aces.

BOYS CROSS-COUNTRY

Cougar boys compete

AURORA — South Decatur had four runners compete in South Dearborn’s Moores Hill Invitational, one short of the number needed to score as a team.

Nicholas Hunter led the Cougars with a ninth-place finish in 19 minutes, 38.3 seconds for 5,000 meter (3.1 miles). Donovan Hale took 11th in 20:11.3, Conner Newby was 14th in 20:23.0 and Keaton Troutman finished 26th in 23:56.8.

Columbus East and South Decatur were set to run in the girls race, but storms came, and a couple hours later, the girls meet was canceled.
