David A. Kirts, 75, formerly of Columbus, IN, passed from this life on August 24, 2023 at the Hospice House in Lakeland, FL.
Dave had recently moved to Lakeland to spend the rest of his days with his son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter. He was born on October 29, 1947 in Columbus, to William F. and Anna D. (Chasteen) Kirts. They preceded him in death.
Dave “Dave-O” graduated from Hauser High School in 1965 and soon after went to work at Cummins Engine Co. He was a dedicated employee &material supplier for 48 years &retired in 2016.
Dave-O loved sports of all kind, but his favorite was NASCAR and dirt track racing. He attended many NASCAR races over the years and dedicated his Sundays to watching the race on TV. He collected NASCAR die cast cars and other racing memorabilia.
He loved fast cars so much he also collected his own. He was a member of the Corvette Club. He owned several Corvettes and sports cars over the years, most recently a 2014 convertible Corvette, a 2013 Hot Wheels limited addition Camaro and a 1986 Monte Carlo.
Dave was a man of few words, but those who knew him, knew him as a kind, loving &generous man.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Kirts.
Survivors include his loving sons, David A. (Amanda) Kirts, Jr. of Lakeland, FL and Nicholas Kirts of Elizabethtown; and three grandchildren, Bailey and Cohen Kirts, and Makenna Smith.
The funeral service will be 11:00 am Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Myer-Reed Chapel with Pastor Marcus Speer officiating. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 – 8 pm Friday and one hour prior to service time Saturday at the funeral home.
