Postseason sites set for winter sports

Bartholomew County schools and their fans will have to do some traveling this winter to get to postseason tournament sites.

Columbus East and Columbus North boys basketball will play in the sectional at East Central, and the Olympians and Bull Dogs will play in the girls basketball sectional at Whiteland. Hauser’s boys will play in the South Ripley Sectional, and the Jet girls will play in the North Decatur Sectional.

The only sectional that will take place in the county will be in boys swimming, which will be at North. North and East Central flip-flopped as boys and girls swimming hosts, with East Central taking the girls sectional this year.

East and North still will compete in the wrestling sectional at Jennings County. That sectional, however, has added a pair of Johnson County teams in Franklin and Indian Creek this year. The wrestling regional still will be at Jeffersonville, with the semistate remaining at Evansville’s Ford Center. The Wrestling State Finals also will be at Ford Center this year because of the NBA All-Star Weekend festivities taking place at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Fall sports hosts were announced earlier this summer. One recent update is that East now will host boys and girls soccer semistate games instead of Seymour.

North announces schedule changes

Tonight’s Columbus North-Martinsville volleyball game has been moved from North to Martinsville. The JV and freshmen will start at 6 p.m., with the varsity to follow at around 7:15 p.m.

Also, the Bull Dogs’ boys tennis match with Southport that was postponed last week because of heat, has been rescheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday at North.

North cheerleaders to host cheer clinic

Columbus North’s cheerleaders will be hosting a Cheerleading Clinic Sept. 9 from 9 to 11 a.m. for Grades K-through-3 and from Noon to 2 p.m. for Grades 4-through-6.

Cost is $40. Those signed up by Sept. 1 will receive a camp t-shirt.
