Big first half propels Cougars past Lancers

GREENSBURG — South Decatur jumped out to a 31-0 halftime lead and went on to post a 52-14 against Edinburgh on Friday.

Corbin Johnson carried 17 times for 232 yards and four touchdowns and a 2-point conversion for the Cougars (2-1). Jaylynn McMurray went 5 of 6 passing for 96 yards and two scores.

Alex Myers and Owen Arreola caught the touchdown passes. Colby Rathburn scored on an 80-yard touchdown, and Myers returned an interception for a score.

Rathburn led the South Decatur defense with 13 tackles and an interception.

Both of the Lancers’ scores came on second-half touchdown passes from Caleb Murphy to Connor Ramey. Edinburgh was plagued by close to 100 penalty yards in the first half.
