Bull Dogs take third in Conference Indiana tourney

Erin Hopkins

EDINBURGH — Columbus North had several girls golfers shoot personal-best rounds in Monday’s Conference Indiana tournament at Timbergate, but unfortunately for the Bull Dogs, there were a couple teams that had much better scores.

The Bull Dogs finished third with a 373. Terre Haute South were conference champs with a 319, and Bloomington South was runner-up with a 345.

North had two golfers make All-Conference in juniors Erin Hopkins and Lindsey Hartwell.

Hopkins finished in a tie for third place with Terre Haute South’s Presley White with a 4-over 76. The Braves’ Avery Cassell was the individual medalist with a 74, followed by the Panthers’ Melanie Southern with a 75.

Hopkins mentioned Monday’s 76 was her personal best.

“I was really happy. Overall, I think my putting could use some work, but I played really good today,” Hopkins said. “My shots were pretty solid all day. I think if I can make a couple more putts, I should be a little better than today.”

Lindsey Hartwell

Hartwell finished with an 85 to tie for 10th place, along with Bloomington South’s Avery Beck and Terre Haute South’s Abi English.

“I’m really happy about it,” Hartwell said about making All-Conference. “I could have played better on a couple holes, but overall, I was happy with how I played.”

Other scores for the Bull Dogs included Kara Buntin with a 99, Harper Andresen with a 113 and Ana Pavlov added a 119.

“Kara’s been striking the ball well. She’s typically a good putter, and she was able to put it together today and improve on her best score by quite a bit. I’m happy for her. That ought to give her some confidence to keep playing well. She’s capable of this every time,” North coach Scott Seavers said. “Harper played her best round, too. She had a tough first nine, but on the back nine, she had 19 putts and kept it under 50. I got to be happy with her improvement, as well. Ana is playing well overall. We’ve just got to keep working at it and keep practicing.”

The Bull Dogs will square off in a dual match with crosstown rival Columbus East at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday at Otter Creek.
