Panther boys win Gerkin invite; East girls take third

VERNON — Jennings County won the boys meet and Columbus East edged the Panthers by one point for third place in the girls meet Saturday at Jennings’ Ray Gerkin Invitational.

The Panther boys scored 58 points to 98 for runner-up Seymour.

Kraedyn Young won the boys race in 16 minutes, 30.27 seconds for 5,000 meters (3.1 miles) to lead the Panthers. Aaron Lewis finished seventh in 17:31.05, while Dawson Leak was 16th (17:59.51), Lain Ernstes 17th (18:01.02) and Zachary Wahlman 21st (18:07.40).

East finished ninth with 212 points. Jackson Brookes took 18th in 18:01.78, while Loren Westerfeld was 42nd (18:52.40), Austin Menefee 46th (19:06.30), Stillman Whittington 52nd (19:19.05) and Chance Knapp 72nd (20:24.44).

Seymour won the girls meet with 71 points to 80 for Bedford North Lawrence, 88 for East and 89 for Jennings.

Carly Otte led the Olympians with a sixth-place finish in 21:26.30. Victoria Cuhadar took ninth in 21:59.49, while Amelia Fay was 16th (22:24.58), Abby Collins 30th (23:30.51) and Madison Swartzentruber 35th (23:58.49).

Avery Willhite finished 10th in 21:59.92 to lead the Panthers. Molly Wathen took 12th in 22:16.77, while Addie Otte was 19th (22:33.13), Haley Vogel 23rd (22:56.90) and Alana Watts 32nd (23:40.21).
