LEXINGTON, Ky. — Maddi Rutan pitched three scoreless innings in her collegiate softball debut for Eastern Kentucky on Sunday at Kentucky.
Rutan, a freshman from Columbus North, struck out five and did not walk a batter. Kentucky defeated EKU 7-3 in 10 innings.
The Colonels host Georgetown College in a doubleheader on Sunday.
Taylor goes 2 for 2 in debut
CHARLESTON, Ill. — Hannah Taylor went 2 for 2 with an RBI for Eastern Illinois in her college softball debut on Tuesday.

Taylor, a freshman from Hauser, played second base and shortstop in the fall season opener against Olney Central.

Sabotin named GLVC Offensive Player of Week
University of Indianapolis senior middle hitter Hannah Sabotin has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week for volleyball.
Sabotin, a Columbus resident and Trinity Lutheran graduate, posted 3.1 kills per set and a .565 hitting percentage to lead the Greyhounds to a 4-0 in winning the Bobcat Classic championship. She also had 11 blocks, 13 digs and seven aces and earned her first GLVC Player of the Week award.
UIndy (10-2) opens GLVC play Friday and Saturday at home against Southwest Baptist and Drury.
Lang nets first goal of season
ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Jenna Lang scored her first goal of the season Friday to give Michigan a 1-0 win against Minnesota in its Big Ten women’s soccer opener.

Huffman has career day in win
OLIVET, Mich. — Blake Huffman carried nine times for a career-high 105 yards and two touchdowns Saturday to help lead Hanover to a 67-17 win at Olivet.

Huffman, a junior from Columbus North, scored the game’s first touchdown on an 18-yard run and added a 48-yard scoring run in the second quarter. He also caught two passes for 39 yards.
Hanover (2-0) hosts Trine on Saturday.
Newell named Patriot League Rookie of the Week
BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Navy’s Brianna Newell was named the Patriot League cross-country Women’s Rookie of the Week last week.

Newell, a freshman from Columbus North, finished 18th out of 93 runners in helping lead the Midshipmen to the Navy Invitational title on Sept. 9.
Navy will compete in the Virginia Invitational on Saturday.
Goecker helps Lipscomb to victory
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — AJ Goecker helped the Lipscomb men’s cross-country team to a third-place finish in Saturday’s Trevecca Michael Pretorius Invitational.

Goecker, a graduate student from Trinity Lutheran, finished ninth individually in 25 minutes, 37.91 seconds for 8K (5 miles).
Lipscomb will run in the Loyloa Lakefront Invite on Sept. 29.
Stiles helps Bruins blank USI

Munnicha, Xavier open season
CINCINNATI — The Xavier women’s golfers opened their season with a third-place finish in Cincinnati’s Jennifer Duke Invitational on Monday and Tuesday.

Playing as an individual, Xavier’s Nathaly Munnicha, a junior from Columbus North, shot rounds of 83, 76 and 80 to tie for 59th individually with a 239.
