Purse bingo event to aid cancer research

Hundreds of bingo players participate at a past Designer Purse Bingo event at The Commons sponsored by the Columbus chapter of the Phi Beta Psi Sorority.

A twice-a-year event to raise money for cancer research will be Tuesday, Sept. 26 at The Commons when the Columbus chapter of Phi Beta Psi hosts its 16th Designer Purse Bingo event.

Tickets for the event, which often hosts a capacity crowd of 432 bingo players, were pre-sold in August, but the local service sorority’s chapter welcomes donations of cash or items for raffle baskets.

All the proceeds from the events, which take place every April and September, are donated to Phi Beta Psi’s national cancer research project.

Doors for the Sept. 26 event will open at 5 p.m., with bingo announcements at 6:15 p.m. and the first bingo number called at 6:30 p.m. Boy Scout Troop 549 will provide refreshments.
