THE POLIDOR 5K, 8:30 a.m., Oct. 21, St. Bartholomew Church, 1306 27th St., Columbus. Our annual 5K Run/Walk is held to raise money for the ALFA program in Northern Haiti, which helps equip market women and peasant farmers in Haiti with the tools to improve their lives and give them the dignity that every human being deserves. BLACKWELL PARK STORYWALK, Blackwell Park, 1550 Whitney Court, Columbus. Enjoy some fresh air while strolling the Bartholomew County Public Library’s StoryWalk. Together with the Columbus Parks and Recreation Department, the library is excited to feature “Creepy Carrots” by Aaron Reynolds in October. ART SHOW, 5 to 7 p.m., through Oct. 27, Perceptions Yoga, Mindfulness & Art, 139 E. State Road 3, Vernon. The exhibition will be “Ravens Galore” featuring the work of Barb Ison. TURNING POINT’S 2023 HEART SHOW, 5 to 8 p.m., Oct. 13, The Commons, 300 Washington St., Columbus. In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness month, Turning Point invites the community to the 2023 HEART Show. The event will host an array of art from local student, emerging and professional artists, with the intention of using artists’ creations as a means of interpersonal violence prevention. This event is free and open to the public. All art sales will directly benefit Turning Point services and programs.

A GATHERING OF QUILTS, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Oct. 14, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Oct. 15, Foundation for Youth, 405 Hope Ave., Columbus. The Columbus Star & Evening Star Quilters will present their 19th biennial Quilt Show “A Gathering of Quilts” with an admission of $5 for ages 12 and up. There will be a display of more than 100 quilts, vendors, a handmade boutique, demonstrations, and an applique class on Saturday, Oct. 14. As an added attraction, there will be silent auctions of an Indiana University quilt and a Purdue University quilt, along with other items. NALA PALOOZA, A FREE DOG FESTIVAL, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Oct. 21, Mill Race Park, 50 Carl Miske Dr., There will be food, fun, and games for all at Nala Palooza, a festival to raise funds for the Nala Fund, which helps pay for medical care for dogs in need. For just $10, you can sign up for a poker run and receive a map showing five locations inside Mill Race Park. Walk, run, or bike to these stations to learn about dogs and receive a playing card. The many other activities at the festival include dog demos, free dog microchipping, a bouncy house, face painting, vendors, crafts for all ages, games, balloon animals and more, including food trucks from Party Chef and Miss Rachel’s Sweet Treats. A free dog costume contest will be at 11:45 a.m. Bring your pup in the cutest, creepiest, funniest, or most extravagant costume.

AUTHOR READING, 2 p.m., Oct. 21, Perceptions Yoga, Mindfulness & Art, 139 E. State Road 3, Vernon. Perceptions is pleased to invite the public to an author reading by Elisabeth Hegmann of North Vernon. She will be reading a portion of her recently published book, “Modus Perfectus”. The American Sewing Guild is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to people who believe sewing is a rewarding and creative activity. Galleries, museums, exhibits

BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY, 524 Third St., Columbus. The museum is open Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. BCHS hosts two permanent exhibits that share the history and heritage of Bartholomew County. Learn about our county through interactive, hands-on exhibits that include a map table, notable people, county timeline, Then and Now, Did You Know, early industrialists and videos of Reeves steam engines. The historical society also hosts rotating exhibits throughout the year featuring items from their extensive collection. Admission is free, with a donation suggested. YELLOW TRAIL MUSEUM/VISITOR CENTER/RESEARCH CENTER, west side of Hope Town Square, 644 Main St., Hope. The museum is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 5 p.m. and Saturdays noon to 4 p.m., or by appointment. The research center is open Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or by appointment. The public is invited to the Indiana Rural Carriers Museum’s Open House on Oct. 15, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the northwest corner of the Hope Town Square, third set of doors south of the main entrance. Refreshments will be available. The Yellow Trail Museum opened the Indiana Rural Letter Carriers Museum in October 2022 with Phase 1: The History. Coming in April 2024 will be Phase 2: The People. The museum would like to display stories and photos of both past and present rural carriers from all over Indiana. ATTERBURY-BAKALAR AIR MUSEUM, located at Columbus Municipal Airport, 4742 Ray Boll Blvd., Columbus, is open Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Saturday, Oct. 14, the C-119 “Flying Boxcar” will be open to the public for free tours from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are accepted to help with ongoing costs of operation. Special tours may be scheduled by calling 812-372-4356. The museum preserves the history of the former Atterbury Army Air Field, later named Bakalar Air Force Base. ANNUAL GHOST WALK AND MYSTERY DINNER, Oct. 20-21, Jennings County Historical Museum, 134 Brown St., Vernon. Ghost walk is 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. with local students performing folklore and ghost stories around the courthouse square. Tickets are $4 and available at the museum.
