A new $1.5 million plasma donation center is under construction west of the AMC Classic Columbus 12 near the Walmart on Whitfield Drive.

Parachute Plasma Center will be located at 699 Creekview Drive, the former location of Top Dog Car Wash.

The 6,408 square foot, one-story building at the east end of Pavilion Drive will be one of 42 Parachute Plasma Centers now operational or currently under construction in states from North Carolina to New Mexico. The company’s only other Indiana location has recently opened in Vincennes, according to the company’s website.

While the 3-year-old Austin, Texas-based company has established a website for the future Columbus facility, an opening date has not been announced. Efforts to request more specifics from a company official were not successful.

The company offers money to donors for donations and referrals.

The company also offers specific prizes through loyalty reward programs.

This new form of plasma center was created to address a severe shortage of plasma that is used to create medicine that treats chronic illnesses, including immune disorders, liver disease, bleeding disorders, and cancer globally, according to the company’s website.
