Pacers hold off Eagles in sectional opener

VEVAY — Brown County had a chance down by seven and the ball deep in Switzerland County territory Friday night, but the Pacers held on for a 28-21 win an opening-round Class 2A sectional game.

After falling behind 28-14, the Eagles (1-9) got a 77-yard kickoff return and extra point from Landon Scott to cut the lead in half. Brown County came up with a pair of defensive stops, getting the ball back for the final time at their own 20 with 1:30 remaining.

The Eagles drove to the 35 and got a defensive holding call as time ran out. That put it at the 20 for an untimed down, but a pass fell incomplete.

Switerland County led 14-6 at halftime, with Brown County’s score coming on a 1-yard run by Tommy Buccos. The Eagles tied it at 14-14 on a 3-yard keeper by quarterback Noah Lewis and a 2-point conversion pass from Lewis to Buccos
