Freeze warning in effect tonight, Tuesday morning

The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for Bartholomew and surrounding counties, as well as portions of central, east central, north central, south central, southeast, southwest and west central Indiana, from 10 p.m. Monday until 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 24 degrees are expected, resulting in frost and free conditions that will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Residents are advised to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes, they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those who have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
