North teams run at Midwest Regional

TERRE HAUTE — Several cross-country teams from Columbus North competed as “Columbus Thorn” in Sunday’s Nike Midwest Regional at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course, where the Bull Dog varsity teams ran in the state meet two weeks earlier.

The varsity teams finished 13th in the Boys Championship race and 28th in the Girls Championship race. Teams from Illinois took the top three spots in both races, which were qualifiers for the Nike Cross Nationals.

Neal White led the North boys with a 67th-place finish in 15 minutes, 43.1 seconds for 5,000 meters (3.1 miles). Akot Tong took 80th in 15:46.7, while Adam Reckers was 110th (15:59.0), Jace Works 190th (16:30.4), Jonny Klaus 222nd (16:49.2), Denton Sluder 237th (17:00.3) and Damien Dixon 244th (17:02.9).

Carys Glyn Jones finished 129th in 18:58.5 to lead the girls. Kyleigh Wolf took 197th in 19:51.5, while Emma Lowther was 236th (20:40.1), Macy Eaton 248th (21:16.3), Lydia Weed 249th (21:22.7), Tristan Works 253rd (21:48.7) and Katie Frazier 256th (22:08.7).

Meanwhile, the Bull Dogs finished seventh in the Girls Freshman-Sophomore Championship race. Reece Peeples took 65th in 21:27.1, while Adira Sluder was 74th (21:45.5), Rendy Zhong 89th (22:07.0), Brooklyn Donner 95th (22:21.9) and Claire Rawlings 148th (25:36.1).

North finished 10th in one of the Boys Freshman-Sophomore races. Justin Reckers ran 17:03, followed by Levi Carothres (17:44), Drew Hoeflinger (17:51), Graham Pumphrey (18:23), James Stofel (18:31), Leyton Hottell (18:40), Owen Grimes (18:48), Noah Weidman (19:32) and Cayden Chandler (21:52).

Another Bull Dog team finished 70th in the Boys Open division. Evan Bense ran 17:23, followed by Cole Stevens (17:35), Frankie Polyak (18:07), Liam Glyn-Jones (18:25), Emiliano Lopez (18:29), Drew Jacobi (18:46), Jaco Cooper (18:49), Ben Psota (19:29) and Eli Psota (20:57).
