Sound and Spirit finishes season

The Sound and Spirit of Columbus concluded its 2023 season with a performance at the Bands of America Grand National Championships.

The local marching band performed in the event’s preliminaries at Lucas Oil Stadium on Thursday but did not advance to the semifinals. About 100 bands competed in the event, with Avon High School winning in the finals.

Avon also came in first place for its division at the Indiana State School Music Association’s State Marching Band Finals, which were held at Lucas Oil Stadium on Oct. 28. Avon, like Columbus, competes in the Open A division. Columbus made it to semistate but did not advance to the state finals.

The Sound and Spirit of Columbus is a marching band made up of over 150 students from all three high schools in the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp.

According to Columbus North band director Keith Burton, the band is having a senior banquet and awards ceremony at The Commons today.
