James V. Campbell

James V. “Jim” Campbell, age 83 passed away peacefully on Tuesday afternoon, November 14, 2023 at Brown County Health &Living Community in Nashville. He was a resident of Nashville.

Jim was born January 10, 1940 in Nashville to his parents, the late Vernon &Violet (Smith) Campbell. He was a 1958 graduate of Helmsburg High School in Brown County. Jim enlisted in the United Army serving as a Specialist 5 with the 13th Army Security Agency Operations in Europe. Jim was retired from the United States Postal Service, where he worked as a Mail Carrier in Nashville for many years. Prior to that, Jim worked at Cummins Engine Company in Columbus. After retirement, he worked at Salt Creek Golf Retreat on the grounds crew.

Jim was an avid reader and often visited the Brown County Library. He enjoyed playing his guitar, mandolin and writing songs. Jim also enjoyed playing golf, and was a fan of the Indianapolis Colts and Indiana University Men’s Basketball Team.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Thelma L. (Allender) Campbell, whom he married on May 30, 1959 in Nashville. He is also survived by his sister-in-law’s, Jenny (Bernard) Hatchett &Phyllis Lucas both of Nashville and JoAnn Campbell of Indianapolis; brother-in-law, Thomas Carr of Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, David &John Campbell and Nancy Carr.

The Rev. Darrell Miller will conduct a funeral service on Friday, November 17th at 2 p.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation &Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 12 p.m. until service time on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Nashville with military rites presented by the Brown County Honor Guard and the United States Army.
