Donner Swim Club hosted a new invitational last weekend called the Veterans Day Pentathlon.

More than 150 athletes representing four teams competed in the meet Nov. 11 at Columbus North High School. The Pentathlon consisted of each athlete competing in five events.

Donner had 67 athletes participate in the event. Of the 287 total swims for the day, 203 resulted in personal-best times, and 67 of those earned new Indiana State Divisional Cuts, with six swims being with in 2 seconds of the Indiana Age Group State Cut.

Some of the new divisional cuts included Shinjan Bera in the 50-yard backstroke; Levi Bense in the 100 freestyle; Cooper Bringman in the 200 individual medley and 50 freestyle; Ella Bringman in the 200 IM, 50 backstroke and 50 butterfly; Caroline Crawford in the 100 freestyle; Lincoln Crawford in the 50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke, 50 butterfly and 50 freestyle; Elle Fitzsimmons in the 50 freestyle; Gavin Ley in the 200 IM, 50 backstroke and 50 freestyle; Emily Meek in the 200 IM; Cade Paulsen in the 200 IM, 50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke, 50 butterfly and 50 freestyle; Sydney Paulsen in the 50 freestyle; Ritivik Prithiviraj in the 50 breaststroke; Luiza Salomao in the 50 freestyle; Lilly Schofield in the 50 butterfly; Shabarirajan Thangaraj in the 50 freestyle and Eli Varchenko in the 100 freestyle.

New swimmers Charlie Reed, Ravleen Kaur, Arya Dayama and Calvin Findley had huge time drops in their events.

Donner compete at Seymour Owls December invite the first weekend of December.

SPEED SKATING

Full Throttle competes

The Full Throttle Speed Skating team competed in the Chicago area last weekend, attending the Park Ridge Open on Nov. 11 and the Franklin Park Barrel Buster on Sunday. Both meets were regional ability meets, attracting skaters from Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Missouri and Indiana.

At the Park Ridge Open, Edward Meir competed at 333m, 444m and 500m distances, finishing fourth overall for his age group.

Rithwik Veeravalli and Quin Fortner competed at 333m, 500m and 777m distances, finishing first and third overall for their group, respectively.

Wyatt Kiefer competed at 500m, 777m and 1000m distances, finishing third overall for his group.

Meir and Fortner also competed in Sunday’s Franklin Park Barrel Buster meet, improving their results from the day before. They were joined by Ethan Tan, who competed at 111, 222 and 333 distances, finishing first overall for his group.

Meir competed at 333m, 444m and 500m, finishing second overall for his group. Fortner competed at 333m, 444m and 500m, finishing first overall for his group.

Full Throttle Speed Skating Team practices at the Hamilton Center Ice Arena and is coached by Taylor and Mikey Burdekin of Columbus.

BROOMBALL

MOR, Hansons post wins

Monsters of Rock and Hansons both ran their records to 3-0 with wins last week in the Columbus Broomball League.

MOR beat Our Name Is Earl 5-1. Ben Eckart scored three goals, and Tyler Rash and Ricky Hooten each added one for MOR. Josh Myers had the goal for Earl (1-2).

Hansons topped Toyota Tsunamis 9-2. Keith Henney netted four goals, while Max Warr had three goals and Matt Psota and Erik Spilling each added one for Hansons. Greg McNealy and Collin Graeber scored for Tsunamis (0-2-1).

Jennings County BC and CCA played to a 2-2 tie. Darien Castetter and Kyle Hunteman had the goals for Jennings (0-1-2). Scott Herron and Brad Williams scored for CCA (0-2-1).

BASKETBALL

Panthers sweep Cougars

The Jennings County seventh- and-eighth-grade boys junior varsity basketball teams swept South Decatur, with the eighth-grade winning 38-23 and the seventh grade prevailing 36-12.

Lance Kear led the Panther eighth-graders with 17 points. Rodney Benham added 10.

Barrett Stoner scored 10 points to lead the Jennings seventh-graders. Jonah Kreutzhans had nine, and Conner Holton added eight.

The Panthers were coming off a sweep of Shawe Memorial. Kaleb McIntosh scored 15 points, and Kear added eight in a 41-40 win for the eighth-graders. Kreutzjans netted 10 points to lead the seventh-graders to a 28-23 victory.
