Seymour man arrested on multiple preliminary charges after foot chase near store

COLUMBUS, Ind. — A Seymour man was arrested Thursday evening after he fled from Columbus police officers who were conducting a shoplifting investigation.

At approximately 6 p.m., CPD officers responded to Menards, 2315 Merchants
Mile, regarding a shoplifting suspect inside the store, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

The shoplifting suspect, later identified as Daniel R. Mason, 34, Seymour, was a suspect in a shoplifting incident at the same store on Wednesday, Harris said. When officers approached Mason, he began running and ignored the officers’ commands to stop. Mason dropped stolen merchandise next to a parked vehicle and continued running to the east where he was taken into custody outside of a nearby business.
