Prep sports notebook: East girls hoops raises $3,500 from “Pink Night” fundraiser

The Columbus East girls basketball team raised approximately $3,500 when the Olympians hosted “Pink Night” at the Orange Pit for Friday night’s game against Mooresville.

East wore pink uniforms during the game to honor cancer survivors, those who are battling cancer and those who have lost their battle with cancer. All of the proceeds will go to the Indianapolis-based Indiana Women In Need Foundation.

East boys basketball starts Tuesday

While Columbus North and Hauser played their boys basketball season openers on Tuesday, it will be almost another week before Columbus East begins its season under new coach Perry Nash.

The Olympians will host Whiteland in the season opener on Tuesday with a JV tipoff at 6 p.m. and the varsity game to follow at around 7:30 p.m..

North-Jennings game rescheduled

The Jennings County at Columbus North boys basketball game that was originally scheduled for Dec. 6 has been moved to Jan. 16.

The JV game will start at 6 p.m., with the varsity game to follow at around 7:30 p.m.

Jennings wrestling match canceled

The Jennings County Double Duals wrestling event that was scheduled for Wednesday has been canceled.
