A Columbus radio-controlled racing venue that’s been hosting events for 10 years announced recently it will close its doors this month.

Fast5 RC Raceway, 1285 Indianapolis Road, will conduct its last racing meet on Dec. 9. Owners said a significant rent increase was unaffordable.

Co-owner Joe Chambers said the business he owns with his brother Jon has had a good run.

“We’ve had thousands of drivers race at our track from all over the US,” Joe Chambers told The Republic. “It’s been a great journey. … It’s disappointing … We love this hobby and have local drivers that support us every weekend.”

That’s evidenced by the more than 3,100 members of Fast5’s Facebook group.

The final race at the Indianapolis Road venue will be Saturday, Dec. 9 with doors opening at 11 a.m. and racing starting at 3 p.m.

Joe Chambers said he’s hopeful Fast5 can find a new home in the future, and options are being considered.

“It’s a great hobby and I’m sure most people in Columbus didn’t even know we were here,” he said, “but we have a great following and hope to bring Fast5 back and make it bigger and better than it is today.”
