College sports notebook: Barker’s last-minute heroics lift Franklin to comeback victory

FRANKLIN — Lauren Barker scored the go-ahead layup with 58 seconds remaining, then hit two free throws in the closing seconds to help Franklin pull out a come-from-behind 92-87 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference win against Anderson on Saturday.

The Grizzlies had trailed by as many as 25 points midway through the second quarter.

Barker, a freshman from Columbus North, finished with 10 points, five rebounds and three steals and led Franklin with five assists and a blocked shot in a team-high 35 minutes of action.

On Wednesday, Barker recorded eight points, five rebounds, an assist and a steal in 19 minutes in an 89-47 win against Eureka.

Franklin (4-1, 1-0) hosts No. 2-ranked Transylvania on Wednesday.

Schiavello scores 22 in defeat

Nick Schiavello returned from an injury to lead Wheaton with 22 points, six rebounds and three assists in 35 minutes of action Saturday in a 64-54 CCIW loss to North Central (Illinois).

Schiavello, a senior from Columbus North, made his season debut Wednesday in a 67-61 loss at Millikin. He finished with eight points, four rebounds and a team-high four assists in 30 minutes.

The Thunder (1-6, 0-2) visit Carroll (Wisconsin) on Wednesday.

Greiwe hits career-high in IWU win

MARION — Koryn Greiwe scored a career-high seven points on a perfect shooting day Saturday in Indiana Wesleyan’s 92-56 Crossroads League win against Bethel.

Greiwe, a redshirt-freshman from Columbus East, went 2 of 2 from the field, including 1 of 1 from 3-point range, and 2 of 2 from the free-throw line. She also had two rebounds in six minutes of action.

The Wildcats (7-1, 3-0) visit IU Northwest on Tuesday.

White helps SMW to victory

WEST TERRE HAUTE — Madison White scored six points Saturday to help Saint Mary-of-the-Woods to an 87-66 River States Conference win against IU East.

White, a junior from Columbus North, also had two rebounds, and an assist in 13 minutes of action.

The Pomeroys (5-3, 1-0) host IU Southeast on Tuesday.

Stahl nets 4 points, 4 rebounds in win

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — Saige Stahl, a freshman from Columbus East, scored four points and grabbed four rebounds in seven minutes of action Saturday to help Indiana State to a 73-65 win at Central Michigan.

Barker helps Army to first victory

WEST POINT, N.Y. — Blake Barker scored four points Friday to help Army to its first win of the season, a 74-39 victory against SUNY Maritime.

Barker, a junior from Columbus North, also had one rebound and one assist in 18 minutes of action.

On Wednesday, Barker scored 11 points and had two rebounds and an assist in 28 minutes in a 79-51 loss to Central Connecticut State.

Army (1-7) hosts Le Moyne on Tuesday.

Horn scores 4 in close loss

GAMBIER, Ohio — Cooper Horn scored four points Saturday in DePauw’s 73-71 North Coast Athletic Conference loss at Kenyon.
