A few entertainment ideas from the area events calendar.

* If you’ve missed past A Not So Silent Night celebrations in downtown Columbus, where shops are open late, children’s activities are on tap and you can usually hear sleigh bells coming down Washington Street, then you’re missing classic Norman Rockwellesque scenes such as this one right here. In the past, the event has been as chilly as 15 degrees and as balmy as 60 degrees. This year, on the Sixth Street Arts Alley, the Columbus Area Arts Council’s annual and always creative 50/50: A Community Art Project exhibit reception runs from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at 411 Gallery at 411 Sixth St. There also is a slate of activities at stops such as the Bartholomew County Historical Society Museum. * Christian pop music veteran Steve Curtis Chapman, who regularly has confessed in The Republic and elsewhere that he has had a soft spot for the Hoosier State since his college days at Anderson University, will bring more than a bit of the Christmas spirit to a seasonal concert titled “Acoustic Christmas” scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Brown County Music Center, 200 Maple Leaf Drive in Nashville. The five-time Grammy winner has appeared everywhere from “The Tonight Show” to “60 Minutes” and last year earned the BMI Icon Award, earned by other artists such as Dolly Parton, Sting, Paul Simon, Carole King, and Stevie Nicks.
