Joy E. Hinds

Joy E. Hinds, 81, of Columbus, met her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 1:13 p.m. Friday, December 1, 2023.

She passed peacefully at home among loved ones, following an eight year battle with cancer.

Joy was born November 3, 1942, in Greensburg, Indiana, the daughter of Wilbur and Marianna Foreman Mozingo.

She graduated from Sandcreek High School in 1961 and later married her high school sweetheart Don, May 9, 1965, after he served three years in the U.S. Navy. They later settled in Columbus.

She received her bachelor’s degree from Purdue University and a master’s degree in social work (MSW) from Indiana University in 1989.

She retired from Quinco Mental Health after 24 years of service to the community.

Joy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She enjoyed traveling, gardening, classic westerns and quiz shows, particularly Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.

She passed down her love of music to her children and grandchildren.

She was a member of Parkside Baptist Church and attended Columbus Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years; children, Michelle (Noland) Herbert of Columbus, Edward Hinds of Indianapolis, Melinda (Scott) Bridgewater of Seymour and Matthew (Anna) Hinds of Enon, Ohio; granddaughters, Brandi, Andrea, Danielle, Emmah and Ellah; great-granddaughters, Chastine, Kamara, Brynlee and Blakelyn; brother, Gary (Kelly) Mozingo of Bradenton, FL; and sisters, Judy Mozingo of Greensburg, Debbie (Chuck) Estridge of Williamstown, Ky and Phyllis (Tracy) Winters of Greensburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike with Pastor Charles Kennedy officiating.

Family and friends may gather for a time of visitation from 11:30 a.m. until time of service.

She will be laid to rest at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Columbus Baptist Church or donor’s choice of charity.
