The battle of Columbus for the winter sports, with the exception of gymnastics, will commence Tuesday for Columbus East and Columbus North.
On Tuesday, East hosts the boys and girls swimming contests beginning at 5:30 p.m. On Wednesday, the wrestling dual meet will be held at North beginning with the JV at 6:15 p.m. and the varsity to follow at around 7 p.m.
In girls basketball, North will host East at 6 p.m. (JV) and 7:30 p.m. (varsity) on Thursday. It will conclude with boys basketball when East hosts North at 6 p.m. (JV) and 7:30 p.m. (varsity) on Friday.
The North-East gymnastics meet won’t be held until Jan. 8 at East.
As a reminder, since The Republic publishes a print edition on Wednesdays and Saturdays, coverage of the wrestling and girls basketball events will be posted online at therepublic.com/category/local-sports on Wednesday and Thursday nights. Coverage of Tuesday’s swim meet and Friday’s boys basketball game will be online those nights, as well.
Crusaders to honor championship teams
Columbus Christian will honor its NACA girls national championship and ICSAA boys state championship basketball teams from 2014 on Saturday for their 10-year anniversaries.
The Crusaders will host Phalen Leadership Academy. The girls game will begin at 6:15 p.m., with the boys game to follow at around 7:45 p.m.
North senior commits to IUC
Columbus North senior Connor Hensley recently announced his commitment to play baseball at IU Columbus.
Hensley batted .303 with four doubles and 17 runs scored and led the Bull Dogs with 20 RBIs and went 3-1 with two saves and a 3.40 ERA on the mound as a junior in helping the Bull Dogs to a sectional title.
Hauser senior to sign with OCU
Hauser senior Paige McDaniel will have a signing ceremony in the school’s auditorium at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
McDaniel, a three-time All-Mid Hoosier Conference pitcher, will be signing to play softball at Oakland City University in southwest Indiana.
East to host signing ceremony
Columbus East will have a college signing day at 6 p.m. Dec. 18.
North-Jennings game rescheduled
The Jennings County at Columbus North boys basketball game that was originally scheduled for Dec. 5 has been moved to Jan. 16.
The JV game will start at 6 p.m., with the varsity game to follow at around 7:30 p.m.
