JEFFERSON COUNTY: ISP releases identification of four bodies inside burning home

Indiana State Police have identified the four people who were found dead inside a burning home on Telegraph Hill Road near Madison (Indiana).

They have been identified as Naomi Briner, 35, Adelia Briner, 12, Leland Briner, 8, and Iyla Briner, 6.  It is believed that Naomi Briner was the mother of the three younger victims.

Further investigation has determined that all four of the deceased had injuries consistent with gunshot wounds at the time they were located inside of the residence.

This is an ongoing investigation.  However, at this time, investigators do not believe that there is a threat to the public.

Indiana State Police Investigators continue to work closely with the Indiana Fire Marshal’s Office, Jefferson County Prosecutor’s Office, Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office to thoroughly investigate this incident.

 

 

ORIGINAL STORY

JEFFERSON COUNTY — Detectives with the Indiana State Police-Versailles Post are conducting a death investigation after the bodies of four individuals were found inside a burning residence on Telegraph Hill Road, just outside of Madison in rural Jefferson County.

The preliminary investigation indicates that first responders responded to an address in the 1600 block of East Telegraph Hill Road shortly after 4 p.m. on Tuesday.  When emergency personnel arrived at the residence, they found the home on fire.  Upon entering the residence, fire department personnel located the bodies of four individuals in the residence.  Despite life saving measures, all four of the individuals were pronounced deceased at the scene.  The fire was extinguished, and investigators were called to the scene.

At this time, the identities of the deceased individuals are not being released until proper identification can be made by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.  Autopsies are scheduled to be performed in Hamilton County, Ohio to determine the cause and manner of death.

The Indiana State Police is working with the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson County Prosecutor’s Office, and Jefferson County Coroner’s Office to investigate this incident.
