Letter: Downtown development no match for green space

From: Paul Davis

Columbus

I attended the Columbus City Council meeting on Dec. 5 that approved a building to replace the green space at Sixth and Washington streets. After the meeting, I drove by the property. I was amazed at the beauty the green space added to the area. The best designed building cannot compete with that beauty. It is like an island, an oasis in a sea of concrete, a bit of fresh air. It could be included as a part of the “Beautify Columbus” project.

The impact on downtown Columbus of the proposed building as presented is significant. But at what cost to the beauty of the area?

The saving of the area would be a fitting tribute to the memory of Mr. Irwin Miller.
