COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus Mayor Jim Lienhoop, who is retiring and leaving office at the end of the year after serving two terms, was honored Friday by Gov. Eric Holcomb with a Sagamore of the Wabash award.

The award is the highest honor that an Indiana governor can bestow as a personal tribute usually given to those who have rendered a distinguished service to the state or to the governor.

In addition to the Sagamore, which was presented by Mayor-Elect Mary Ferdon at the city’s Christmas luncheon, which was held at NexusPark, Lienhoop presented a proclamation to Dave Hayward, the city’s executive director of public works, who is also retiring.
