Panthers take runner-up in Hall of Fame Classic

NEW CASTLE — Class 4A No. 5 Jennings County routed 4A No. 9 Lake Central 60-22 in the semifinals, but fell to 4A No. 3 Columbia City 56-47 in Friday night’s girls basketball Hall of Fame Classic title game.

In the semifinals, Juliann Woodard recorded 21 points, 22 rebounds, six assists, two steals and five blocked shots to lead the Panthers. Mollie Ernstes added 16 points.

The championship game went back and forth. Jennings (14-2) was within 40-39 early in the fourth quarter when Columbia City hit back-to-back 3-pointers to gain a little breathing room.

Woodard led the Panthers with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Alivia Elmore scored 10, and Ernstes added 10.

Woodard and Ernstes were named to the All-Tournament team.
