It was a senior night to remember for a quartet of Columbus North senior wrestlers Thursday night.

All four scored first-period pins in the final home matches of their career to lead the Bull Dogs to a 57-21 win against Seymour.

“As a team, we just kind of worked on the things we worked on throughout the week, focused on things we needed to improve and went out and did them,” senior Jason Shuey said.

Shuey got things going for North. After the Bull Dogs forfeited the opening match at 120 pounds, Shuey needed only 35 seconds to win by pin at 126 and even the match.

Cohen Long followed with a second-period pin at 132. Then came first-period pins from Justice Thornton at 138, senior Josiah Green at 144 and Luke Spurgeon at 150 and a third-period pin from Asher Ratliff at 157 to give North a 36-6 lead.

“I think we wrestled well,” Green said. “It was nice on senior night to have the guys behind us have a good outing.”

Evan Saevre won by decision at 165. Senior Keller DeSpain then came through with a first-period pin to make it 45-6.

“I think everybody did pretty well and did what we were supposed to,” DeSpain said. “We never slacked off, never did something wrong.”

The Owls picked up a forfeit win at 190 and a pin at 215 before Bull Dog senior Alex Lozano scored a first-period pin at 285.

“We just worked on things we needed to work on, and we saw the results on the mat,” Lozano said.

North picked up win by forfeit at 106 before Seymour closed out the match with a decision at 113.

“They wrestled well,” North coach Matt Joyce said. “They went out and did things we teach, and they did a lot of good things.”
