Betty L. Sims

HOPE

Betty L. Sims, 99, of Hope passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at Traditions of Columbus.

Born on August 17, 1924 in Milford, Indiana, Betty was the daughter of Ora K. and Jamie Norris Miller. She graduated from Burney High School in 1942. She served as the captain cheerleader. Betty married Everett Sims on August 25, 1942 in Clinton, Indiana and he preceded her in death on July 11, 2018.

Betty worked at Arvins from 1950 to 1957 as a transistor in the radio department. She spent most of her life as a homemaker and raising her four boys.

She was a member of Hope United Methodist Church. She was an avid Pacers and Reds fan and was an excellent cook. She enjoyed her trips with Everett to Branson, Missouri and for the Reds Spring Training.

Betty lived at home until she fell and broke her hip at 98 years old. She had lived independently for the past five years.

Survivors her children, Harold (Debbie) Sims of Hope, James A. (Jannette) Sims of Columbus, Greg (Dottie) Sims of Hope, and David (Sue) Sims of Columbus; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Everett; siblings, Paul Miller, Lawrence “Jim” Miller, and Jean Platt; and grandson, Jeffrey Sims.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 8 at 2 p.m. at Norman Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until time of service. Burial will follow at Hope Moravian Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be given to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, 2626 17th Street Columbus, Indiana 47201.
