East edges Floyd for HHC title; Panthers take fourth

SEYMOUR — Columbus East avenged a loss to Floyd Central in last week’s Class 3A state duals by edging the Highlanders 266.5 to 264 Saturday to defend their Hoosier Hills Conference wrestling championship.

Talon Jessup (113 pounds), Caleb Kirkpatrick (138), Caleb Cooper (144), Nate Anderson (150) and Clayton Miller (165) won their respective weight classes for the Olympians. Ethan Poling (106), Lincoln Cooper (157), Tyler Lake (175), Colin McMahon (190) and James Moss (215) all finished second.

Also for East, Gage Rutan (126) and Aiden Miller (132) placed third. Dominic Piper (285) took fourth, and Wyatt Behnke (120) was fifth.

Jennings County finished fourth with 137 points. Luke Kirchner (120) and RJ Barberis (150) each took second for the Panthers.

Also for Jennings, Lane Kirchner (138), Chris Hernandez (170) and Sam Hernandez (190) all placed third. Aiden Kirchner (144), Antonio Pittman (157) and Xavior Gindhart (215) all took fourth; and Kamron Carney (285) was fifth.
