Lucille Marie Blauvelt

COLUMBUS, INDIANA

Lucille Marie Koger Blauvelt, 97, of Columbus, Indiana, passed away on January 20, 2024.

She was born on March 20, 1926, in Monticello, Kentucky, the daughter of Elmer L. Koger and Lelia McLane Koger. She grew up in Westport, Indiana, and married Leslie Ray Blauvelt on June 24, 1941. Lucille owned and operated a beauty salon at their Westport farm while her children were school age. She then graduated from Columbus High School in 1973. Lucille was a dedicated civil servant and was appointed postmaster of the Westport post office. Later in life, she enjoyed crafts/ceramics and traveling. Her favorite destinations were Hawaii, Switzerland, and Florida.

She is survived by daughter, Leslie Faye (David) Piercefield of Columbus, Indiana and six grandchildren (Marie, Kelly, Tonya, Elizabeth, Scott and Jacquelyn); and 4 great grandchildren (Samantha, Nicholas, Anthony and Justin).

She is preceded in death by her husband, Leslie R. Blauvelt, May 13, 2008; one son, Tony Blauvelt; one brother, Lawrence Koger; one sister, Mary Grace Helms Bennett; and parents, Elmer and Lelia Koger.

The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at the Garland Brook Mausoleum Chapel; Pastor Steve O’Connell will officiate.

Family and friends may gather for visitation from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street.

Lucille will be laid to rest with her late husband in the Garland Brook Mausoleum. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
