Bull Dogs best Bloomington South

Columbus North was missing one of its top gymnasts Thursday night, but the Bull Dogs still managed their second-highest score of the season.

The Bull Dogs came through with a 104.625 to easily top Bloomington South, which finished with a 95.225.

“We certainly haven’t peaked out,” North coach Bob Arthur said. “We’re doing better and more consistent. We threw some new skills tonight on some of the events, and the majority of those actually worked out, but we had some areas that we could have done a little cleaner, been a little better. But we’re still progressing well in my mind from week to week.”

Reese Euler missed her best all-around score of the season by just five-hundreths of a point, winning that competition with a 37.05. Euler won the vault (9.4), bars (9.425) and beam (9.05) and took second on the floor (9.175).

“I’m happy,” Euler said. “I feel like in each meet, I’ve improved on something, at least on one event, and then last week, I feel like I improved myself on all the events, so I think that helped carry into this meet. So I feel like hitting last week really helped me tonight.”

The Bull Dogs’ Hannah Perry won the floor (9.275) and finished second on the vault (9.05) and bars (9.5) on her way to a second-place all-around finish with a 34.4.

Emerson Chambers placed third on the beam (7.725) and fourth on the floor (8.575) to edge teammate Ellie McIntier 32.275 to 32.2 for fourth in the all-around. McIntier was third on the vault (8.8) and bars (7.975) and fourth on the beam (7.675).

North competed without senior No. 3 gymnast Laney Acton, who likely will be out a couple of weeks with an injury.

“We missed her tonight,” Arthur said. “But that is a good testament to the next-man-up theory. We didn’t lose a lot (on the score) in the process, but we might have been a little higher if we’d have had Laney in the mix.”
